What We Want
Our goal is to create a high quality journal that reflects emerging trends and showcases the best current writing in noir and, more generally, crime fiction (and nonfiction). We want to explore the relationship between classic crime fiction and the issues that affect all of us today. All noir/crime-related submissions are welcome, but we will give special consideration to work that is contemporary and/or socially relevant.
Submission windows are as follows:
Poetry may be submitted from July 1, 2013 to October 1, 2013.
Fiction may be submitted from September 1, 2013 to December 1, 2013.
Nonfiction may be submitted from October 1. 2013 to January 1, 2013.
You must be the author of the submitted work(s). All work(s) must be original and unpublished (either in print or online). Authors are allowed to submit to multiple categories, as well as to submit multiple works within the same category.
Send all submissions to firstname.lastname@example.org as a Microsoft Word (.doc or .docx) attachment. Please have both the word "Submission" and the category (fiction, nonfiction or poetry) in the subject field.
Submissions should feature standard formatting. The first page should include your real name, physical address (where you would like to receive material via mail), email address, and any other contact information you feel is necessary.
International submissions are welcome, however, all submissions must be in English. If you have written a piece in another language, you may translate your work into English and submit the translation.
In the classic pulp tradition, writers whose work is accepted will receive a penny-per-word (based on the word-count calculated by Microsoft Word) along with a print edition of Noir Riot and other surprise swag.
